I captured this at the pond right near work.  I have a couple of him just chilling out, but then I got too close (like i do) and he took off.  I feel pretty lucky to get this shot.

Bird on a Low Wire
Vulcan Park, Appleton, WI.  Birds rarely sit still long enough for me to properly frame a shot.  Thank you bird for sitting still!

Edit:  This is the first color shot I’ve put on this blog.  Need to fix that.

Diet Coke Rocks

One thing about spring in Wisconsin. A winter’s worth of litter reveals itself. Regardless, I think it gave me a nicely framed picture.

I haven’t updated this thing in ages.  I built a new computer and finally got Lightroom back up and running.  I’m currently having issues getting the site to update properly.  Here’s a picture I took duing the last snow storm of the season.  It’s not the best one, but it’s the only one I have here at work.  I’ll dish out the best one later if I think of it.

Here is the previously mentioned shot of the gull on the warehouse.  I wanted the gull to be very clear in the shot, but also very small.  A small king on a very large hill type thing.  I think I might need to crop more of the warehouse out.  I just don’t know.

AIM post

Apparently I can update this blog from my AIM account. That is currently what this is.

I find it interesting how my opinion of my own photos varies over the course of time. When I take the photo and am looking at the shot on the LCD screen, I might love it or hate it. When I get the photo onto my computer, my opinion of it may change again. After cropping and manipulating the photo in Lightroom, I usually tend to be satisfied with result but sometimes not. Going back and revisiting the photo even as soon as the next day or later that day, my opinion of the shot may change yet again. I have a photo that I took yesterday of a gull perched on the side of a warehouse. I went through this entire process in my head and after flip flopping back and forth between like and dislike, I’m still not sure what I think about it. I’ll post it in a bit.

Edit:  AIM posting works but I can’t title the entry and formatting is totally out the window.  I’d say I might use this feature but if I can use AIM then I’m at a computer and I just post on the webpage.

Another shot from Sunday’s walk by the river.  It was tricky getting the camera to auto focus on the bird and not the branches around it.  Especially when you have to move quickly before the bird flees from the evil human.  I think the tree ended up framing the bird quite nicely after some cropping.

A little more motivated.

Staarting this blog has actually motivated me to get out and shoot. I suppose the lack of WINTER didn’t hurt either. A walk down by the river has lead to an update of about a dozen pictures. They mostly sucked when I took them, but an exercise in cropping, exposure, and contrast has made them somewhat presentable. The duck turned out the best.

Everything was brown and grey today.  I decided the hell with color, let’s take some black and white!  This guy was chilling by the river.  His female companion was sitting next to him, but I cropped her out.  Guys rule!

Bridge to Nowhere is easily my favorite picture. It was taken right before I had to leave for work. All I cared about was that it was foggy and I needed to take some pictures of it. I found the nearest park and just started shooting everything as quickly as I could. This is the result.
